as a one piece fan, i am constantly brought to a state of utter shock due to the fact that so SO many one piece fans are just so blatantly transphobic/homophobic and just downright baffling, hateful people. the denial these people struggle with in accepting the fact that there are canon trans and queer characters in this manga is astounding. this recent yamato “debate” is genuinely the biggest waste fucking of time. if the main character himself, monkey d. fuckin luffy, can refer to yamato by he/him then what is happening in your pea brain that’s stopping you from doing the same? yamato said, “straight up, dawg, i’m kaido’s son, but i also want to be the new oden, so i became a man.” and luffy was like, “oh yeah? tight.” and just started referring to him as “yamabro” and quickly switched to he/him. EVEN MISTER BAD GUY KAIDO WAS LIKE “MY SON, WHERE HE AT?” AND YA’LL STILL ON THIS “best girl #waifu” bullshit. what the fuck is so hard for you fucking idiots to get? what isn’t clicking? are you just? blatantly choosing to ignore canon things or are you just so hateful that you have to twist it into something completely different? and y’all just start makin shit up to back up your completely bullshit points. what the fuck. at this point, i’m just starting to question your lexile skills. y’all CAN read right??? i don’t give a rat’s fat ass about what your political beliefs are or what your personal beliefs are, learn how to use basic high school rhetorical analysis skills and grow the fuck up.
I genuinely think this might be one of the most meaningful sequences I’ve ever seen as a trans person. Yamato in the men’s bath with the other boys and Kiku in the women’s bath with the other girls, and all of our heroes being 100% chill with it. This is absolutely incredible. The ONLY way One Piece can top this for Pride Month is if Yamato officially joins the Straw Hats next week.
